Halloween Read-A-Thon: Update

As some of you may know, alongside all my October bookish activities, I’m currently undertaking a 6 book Halloween Read-A-Thon hosted by the lovely Lauren @ WonderlessReviews. The Read-A-Thon, is now at the half way point so I thought, it’s the perfect time do an update (previous post: Halloween Read-A-Thon: TBR).

CHALLENGE COMPLETE

Don’t Stand So Close was the first book I read from my “official” read-a-thon TBR. I decided not to do a full review for the blog as this book just wasn’t for me. It’s such a shame as this was a highly anticipated read but I found it rather underwhelming, I couldn’t connect with any of the characters – I felt the story never really got started. All the books currently reviewed on the blog are ones I’d happily recommend, some more enthusiastically than others, but reviewing books I don’t enjoy is a skill I’m sill working on.

CHALLENGE (kind of) COMPLETED

The original plan was to read The Walking Dead: The Rise of the Governor and I’m hoping to still read it before the end of the month. If I don’t get around to it, I have read and reviewed Lost in the Light by Mary Castillo, a paranormal mystery – and we’ll all happily pretend that this book was in the original TBR lineup.

 CHALLENGE COMPLETE

Ah the book with the likeable serial killer 🙂 Read, enjoyed, reviewed, no problems here!

STILL TO DO

I picked Treat for this challenge so I could read a book from any genre. I’m yet to start Americanah but there’s still time. However, should I not get around to it, I tend to get distracted easily… I have just been approved for Dark Water by Robert Bryndza on Netgalley… so again, if there’s a different book here at the end of the challenge, we’ll all pretend that was the original plan.

IN PROGRESS…

I started this one last night, I’m currently on page 121 and loving it! Do you ever leave a book sitting on your shelf for ages, and when you start reading it, you wonder why you didn’t start it sooner cos it’s frickin’ awesome!?

IN PROGRESS…

For the sixth book, it was a toss up between House of Leaves and Red Dragon, as there is a read-a-thon for House of Leaves currently underway on bookstagram, I picked this book so I can join in the discussions. I’m currently on page 246. I haven’t read a book like this before, it’s weird in a wonderful way and I’m excited to delve deeper into it’s 705 pages.

10 Days To Go…

The way it’s currently looking, I’m actually on track to complete this read-a-thon, possibly even with my original TBR. The important thing to take away from this update, is the art of PRETENDING

      1. Yes! I forgot about that! But I wanted to complete the “Read Six Books” challenge, but it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen. Ah, well! I absolutely loved the book I did read! (Six of Crows!!)
