THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE: A BOOK YOU WOULD SAVE WHEN CIVILIZATION ENDS?

A Judgement in Stone by Ruth Rendell

For purely selfish reasons, I’d save this book as it is one of my all time favourite books, if not my favourite! And it has the best opening line:

“Eunice Parchman killed the Coverdale family because she could not read or write.”

A Judgement in Stone - Ruth Rendell

THE VAMPIRE: A BOOK YOU WOULD STAKE THROUGH THE HEART?

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Too many feels, I couldn’t cope, the emotions, gaaahhh, it’s too deep, this book spoke to my soul, it’s everything, it’s just, it’s just……! Just too many feels, make it stop, stake through the heart!

The Book Thief

THE HAUNTED HOUSE: A BOOK THAT STILL HAUNTS YOU?

Bird Box by Josh Malerman

I still don’t know who or what ‘they’ are but ‘they’ are still out there and when we let our guard down, ‘they’ will come for us! (reviewed here).

bird-box

THE PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER: A BOOK WITH A TWIST YOU DID NOT SEE COMING?

I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh

Because OMG that twist!

I Let You Go

THE CREEPY DOLL: A BOOK THAT SEEMS INNOCENT BUT ISN’T?

The Ice Cream Girls by Dorothy Koomson

Can you ever truly know the people you love?

The Ice Cream Girls.jpg

THE MONSTER: A BOOK YOU COULD BARELY TACKLE/DEFEAT?

The Loney by Andrew Michael Hurley

This book almost crushed me with it’s nothingness, dull, bland, boring, nothingness… but I persevered and finished it – a horror book with not one element of horror.

the-loney

THE COMEDY-HORROR: A BOOK WITH MIXED GENRES THAT WORKED (OR DIDN’T)?

Normal by Graeme Cameron

Remember that ultra likeable guy who gets on with everyone… it’s such a shame he’s a serial killer, yeah, that one. Thrilling, entertaining and darkly humorous – it totally worked! (reviewed here).

Normal.jpg

THE (CLICHED) TEEN HORROR: A BOOK YOU FOUND SUPER CLICHED/STEREOTYPICAL?

You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone by Kevin O’Brien

Think ‘Scream’, the students don’t take the threat seriously at first, they get killed off one by one in ways reminiscent of the film.

You'll Miss Me When I'm Gone

THE DEMONIC POSSESSION: A BOOK SO GRIPPING YOU NEEDED AN EXORCIST TO ESCAPE IT?

The Devil Crept In by Ania Ahlborn

Who or what is that in the woods? (reviewed here).

the-devil-crept-in-ania-ahlborn

THE SCIENCE FICTION: A PRECIOUS BOOK YOU WOULD PERMANENTLY SACRIFICE TO ALIENS FOR THE GOOD OF MANKIND?

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

If civilisation is lost because I tricked the aliens then… my bad. But Illuminae is science fiction and precious to millions of people all over the world! (I DNF’ed it, but don’t tell the aliens and everyone’s happy!)

Illuminae 2

Now I pass the Holy Grail* along to:

Melissa @ The Bookworm Fantasy

Mikaela @ the well-thumbed reader

& my newest follower, everyone welcome Rakel @ MiRakelBooks

*And by Holy Grail I obviously mean tag

  1. wow this is a good tag! I love love love the Book Thief but it does have so many feels. I cried for a solid three days after I finished it every time I thought about it. As for the rest, I haven’t read them, but I read the Starbound trilogy by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner and loved it, so I think I would like Illuminae.

    1. Illuminae is extremely popular, I don’t read much YA or sci-fi so it was never going to be the book for me but there was such a hype around it, I bought it but I’m sure you’ll be on the side of people that loved it! And feel free to do the tag, let me know if you do so I can see your answers 😊

  2. Oo, never heard of A Judgement in Stone but I will have to look into it now, you have me intrigued! Yessss, I think I put Bird Box as my answer for the question too. I agree with you about The Loney and I can’t wait to read Ahlborn’s book! I’ve seen so many good things being said about it! Excellent post as always! 🙂

  3. This tag looks like so much fun! I’ll try to do it eventually (I’ve been tagged in so many things)! 😂 I agree with Bird Box and I Let You Go; those books are so good! 👌🏾

    1. Feel free to tag me in all the other tags, I enjoy doing them and they get me thinking about the books I’ve read and how much I really liked them (or didn’t like them). No rush for the tag, if you get to it – cool, if not – no worries 😊

  4. Oh yes I let You Go, I forgot about that one for a moment but so true! Birdbox was very creepy. I don’t like horror and this is really as much as I can take :-). Very talented to be able to create such a suspenseful novel without knowing what it is you should be scared of :-). Finally, I’ve read a few books by Dorothy Koomson but not this one. I have it though so still to read and looking forward to it.

    1. Malerman is definitely very talented and I heard he’s new book is out in a few months so I have to get a copy of that one. I don’t think I’ve read any of Koomson’s other books but The Ice Cream Girls was recommended to me and it exceeded my expectations – I love when that happens! Bump it up your TBR!

    1. Ah Renee, I’m being so honest, The Loney could possibly be my biggest disappointment of last year! It was so bad I didn’t even review it on the blog, sometimes you don’t enjoy a book but can see why others would but for this one, just no 🙈 ….You’re in for a treat when you get around to reading The Ice Cream Girls!

  5. Great answers! I loved I Let You Go too. And The Ice-Cream Girls and The Loney are both currently sat on my shelf. Interesting to hear that you didn’t enjoy The Loney.
Thanks so much for the tag! I’ll definitely give this a go soon 🙂

    1. Thanks! Now I’m intrigued to know your views on The Loney and I hope I didn’t put you off it toooo much 🙈 The Ice Cream Girls is amazing, I even lent it to my mum to read and I very rarely ever lend out books!

    1. 🙈 okay I have nothing positive to say about The Loney personally but I might have seen one positive review lol but I do hope you enjoy it – try not to think of it as a horror when you do get around to reading it and then you might like it.

    1. I know of one person, that’s about it! Prior to reading the book, I’d been told there was a shocking twist and I STILL didn’t see it coming, that’s the sign of a good book!
