AWARD! #TheLiebsterAward (part 1)

I’ve been nominated by the wonderful Ronnie Turner. Thanks Ronnie – I’ll excuse you all for 5 minutes while you pop over to Ronnie’s blog and give it a follow, the content is consistently good!

The Rules:

  1. Thank the person/blog who nominated you
  2. Answer the 11 questions they wrote for you
  3. Nominate 11 people
  4. Give them your set of 11 questions to answer

Ronnie’s questions, Janel’s answers

What is your favourite book?

Quite possibly, A Judgement in Stone by Ruth Rendell.

Who is your favourite author and why?

This question is so hard to answer, I’d rather pick my favourite child! (…because I only have one so there would only be one option available to me.) And in one swift movement, I’m going to move onto the the next question, and hope that there’s enough text under this question to, at a quick glance, make it look like I’ve answered it.

Where is your favourite place to read?

At home, no distractions. I do love reading in the coffee shop but there comes a time when you’ve drunk your body weight in hazelnut lattes and you have to question the money spent and if it really was a good idea, haha!

Favourite genre?

Crime Fiction and all its sub-genres: mystery, thriller, suspense, police procedural, psychological thrillers etc etc

If you could meet any author,  who would it be and why?

Peter Swanson because the launch for Her Every Fear was the first book launch I was invited to. I had all Swanson’s books ready to get them signed and be that crazy fan, then checked the date, and realised I was working late that night so I couldn’t attend 😦

What was your favourite book as a child?

Erm…. another tough one, I loved the entire Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine. Before that, came my love of Enid Blyton and the sagas of The Famous Five.

What is your most treasured book?

Oooo, another hard one, I don’t actually know. I list a lot of books on Read It Swap It but I’ve got a handful that, although I probably won’t read them again, I’m not emotionally ready to part with them yet. Do they count as treasured books?

Are you writing or have written a novel?

I haven’t written a novel but I’m writing one in my head, if it should ever leave my head and find it’s way to paper, it won’t be anytime soon, it’ll be one of those novels, when the author states, “this novel took 25 years to write” haha!

I will share with you how I’m thinking of introducing it, remember this is still an idea and no judgement is allowed, something to this effect…

“I did not write this for you but if you’re reading it, I hope you can take something positive from it. If you strip back the layers of this story, you’ll find truth at it’s core. For now, I’m happy for you to think of this as a work of fiction.

This story took place many years ago over a period of eight months. It’s the story of what happens when evil knocks on your door and you invite it in. The true terror that goes on behind closed doors. I once met a young girl who self-harmed, she said the cut was her mouth and the blood that poured were the words she could never say, the pain, the hurt, some way, any way, she just had to get it out. So think of this book as my cut and after 10 years of silence, it’s time for my words to bleed all over the page….”

What type of character grips you the most, ‘Bad Guys’ or ‘Good Guys’?

Bad Guys with good hearts  – the anti-hero. But I love a bad-ass female protagonist too.

When did you start your blog?

18th August 2016

Do you have any advice for people thinking about starting their own blog?

In the words of Jessie J:

“Just be true to who you are.”

***

The rules state I must nominate 11 people and give them a new set of 11 question but I’m going to hold off on that for now, as I’ve been nominated for this award twice, I’ll announce my nominations when I share part 2.

In the meantime, just know that you’re all awesome!

  1. You nicely dodged that bullet there 😉 with your fav author question! I admit it’s a tough one. I wish we had a ReadItSwapIt site over here, bummed that we really don’t have anything like it (a second hand site but never any recent books on it). I looove your introduction there! What an opening!

  2. Crime fiction all the way! 😀 Oh, and Goosebumps ❤ I need to get my old French editions back home, I miss them! You've got a strong introduction for the novel! And you are awesome 😀

  3. Ooh, I actually really like your writing! I’d totally be interested in reading the full thing if it ever gets published! 😄

And, haha, I agree, I can’t choose favorites. Not even for books, but for anything. I just love all my faves so much that I can’t choose between any of them!
