July 2017 #WrapUp

Another month has come to an end, I’m not sad to see July end because I have one more week of work then I’m off for six weeks. Six weeks of no work, no uni, nothing – o the books I’ll be able to read! This month I read a total of 17 books, not as epic as last month when I read 24 but still I exceeded my average of 14 so I’m happy. I also participated in the 24in48 readathon, and I was selected to be a Ninja Book Box Reader, so all in all, it was a very good month. So, let’s say goodbye to July in the most bookish way…

The Good:

The standout books of the month were:

Here and Gone by Haylen Beck was a fast-paced, thrill ride that I loved from cover to cover and featured one of my favourite child characters – reviewed here.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch was incredible, it’s action packed and has one of the most intelligent plots I’ve come across – review coming on 2nd August.

The Ice Princess by Camilla Lackberg was a lovely dose of Nordic Noir and I can’t wait to continue this series – review coming on 4th August.

The Woman in the Wood by Lesley Pearse was my first book by Pearse and certainly won’t be my last – reviewed here.

Also read and reviewed this month:

Marked for Revenge by Emelie Schepp

Another Day in the Death of America by Gary Younge

Soot by Andrew Martin

The Second Captive by Maggie James

The Fourth Monkey by J. D. Barker

Walk in Silence by J. G. Sinclair

Dogwood by Lindsay Parnell

Mini review x2:

The Serial Killer’s Daughter by Lesley Welsh // The Silence Between Breaths by Catherine Staincliffe

August’s book is Confessions by Kanae Minato

Confessions - Kanae Minato

When Yuko Moriguchi’s four-year-old daughter died in the middle school where she teaches, everyone thought it was a tragic accident. It’s the last day of term, and Yuko’s last day at work. She tells her students that she has resigned because of what happened – but not for the reasons they think. Her daughter didn’t die in an accident. Her daughter was killed by two people in the class. And before she leaves, she has a lesson to teach…But revenge has a way of spinning out of control, and Yuko’s last lecture is only the start of the story. In this bestselling Japanese thriller of love, despair and murder, everyone has a confession to make, and no one will escape unharmed.

And that’s all she wrote…. Until next month, I bid you farewell.

  1. I’m a big fan of the Camilla Lackberg books – Nordic Noir at its best and I still have the last one on my kindle to read 🙂 July sounds like a pretty good reading month to me and I’m not at all jealous of your six weeks reading!

    1. I’ll probably spend half of it sleeping, I’ve worked nights for the last 2 weeks and I’ve got one more week of nights so don’t be too envious!
My next Lackberg book should be arriving any day now, I can’t wait!

    1. Yay, you should make sure Dark Matter is in your August TBR – it’s so worth making space for! I’m excited to read Confessions- if you do get a copy and are on Instagram, come and join us for the discussion at the end of the month. Confessions has also been made into a film so I’ll watch it once I’ve read the book

      1. I’ve nothing but good things about it! Even if it isn’t my August TBR (my ever expanding TBR), I have a very long plane and train journey during August so I’ll probably end up getting round to it anyway!
I’ll definitely keep my eye out for a copy, that sounds good!
