Welcome to the eleventh instalment of Ramblings from my pages…, and the first of 2019. Hopefully, you noticed the new look my blog has, I felt like a change, a fresh new look for Keeper of Pages! This post was inspired by It’s Book Talk’s “5 on Friday: Things I’m Loving Lately” – it differs slightly, similar in that it will feature bookish and non-bookish topics, but different in that I will ramble about things I’m loving, hating, wishing for, links I’ve enjoyed, life updates – you name it, I may just ramble about it. The only staple feature of this post will be concluding it with a cool link I found around the web.
Today’s ramblings topics: Magnetic Vintage Library Cards, TOKEN Magazine, Sherlock Holmes Charity Shop Find, and Bitmoji. Whether you read the entire post or jump to the section(s) you’re interested in, I hope you enjoy my ramblings.
MAGNETIC VINTAGE LIBRARY CARDS
As some of you know, I take part in book swaps on Instagram, and for the December ‘secret Santa’ book swap, I got the coolest gift! These vintage library book cards! Not only are they the perfect gift for any book lover, they are multipurpose – whether you use them for something book related, to make a ‘to do’ list, shopping list, notes, letters, anything! The library pock is magnetic, mine takes pride of place on my book cart because I’m using them for something bookish! The notecards are double-sided too, and you can also buy refill notecards.
As this was a gift, I’m not sure where in the UK they were purchased from (if they were at all). But I’ve found them in the United States from Fly Paper Products, they also have an Etsy Shop. Shipping to the UK is £5.72, which is roughly the price of a pack so you’re looking at £12 in total. Although I’m sure they’re available in the UK somewhere, it’s just a case of hunting them down – I found the refill packs in the UK on Etsy, from The Jellybean Studio, so the initial pack must be available from somewhere. I’m sure if you want them bad enough, you’ll find them.
TOKEN MAGAZINE
Did I ever mention how much I love Instagram, I discover all kind of amazing things on there, one thing being this magazine. TOKEN magazine is a biannual arts and literature print magazine, and I was lucky enough to win issues 2 and 3 in a giveaway on their Instagram. There’s many reasons why I love this magazine but two in particular, firstly it’s a one woman show, it’s created, edited and designed by Sara Jafari, how impressive is that! The second thing I love is that this magazine supports underrepresented artists, you’ll find that the majority of the pieces are by people of colour, and other minority groups. “Diversity of voice is essential to the magazine, not an afterthought. “
To find out more about TOKEN, visit their website, tokenmagazine.co.uk. At the time of writing this, issue 2 and 3 (yellow cover) are still available to buy in print, whereas issue one is only available digitally. If you’re interested in submitting a piece of art/literature, you are advised to follow them on social media to be the first to know when they are calling for submissions.
SHERLOCK HOLMES CHARITY SHOP FIND
I found these vintage Sherlock Holmes novels in my local charity for 99p each, I hadn’t seen them before but knew immediately I needed to add them to my collection. When I got home, I thought I’d look them up (as you do) and it turns out they’re part of a 10 book set, which I saw going for sale on eBay for £100 for the complete set!!!!! Whether that’s wishful thinking on the part of the seller or how much these bad boys are going for, I feel pretty chuffed with myself, and will be keeping an eye out for the remaining 7, at the lower charity shop price, of course.
BITMOJI
If you’ve had any kind of communication with me via text/WhatsApp in the last week, you’ll know my latest app obsession is Bitmoji. During a conversation with Beth (Bibliobeth), one of her messages included her Bitmoji, and I was like ‘who is this virtual Beth!?’, I immediately downloaded the app, and in usual Janel-style didn’t bother to actually create my bitmoji till a week ago. And now, it’s Bitmojis everywhere, I’m addicted, you can send them to anyone, in any app! And there’s even bookish Bitmojis too!

Categories of Mystery Novels
Are you a lover of mystery novels, can you tell your hard-boiled mystery from your cozy mystery? Or your suspense novel from your thriller? What about sub-genres – can you tell what makes a mystery novel a classic, a domestic, a vocational, a locked room and so on?
Hard-boiled to Cozy: Categories of Mystery Novels.

😱 O, tell me everything, how do I animate it!!!!

There’s another app, I think it’s called animate me. I thought I’d done it on the original but I can’t see how at the moment.

Oh, the Bitmoji’s. Awfully addictive but so much fun! And those magnetic library cards are way cool!

Really, you recognise this theme, bet you don’t know what it’s called, because I discovered it all on my own! 😂
I need to go app hunting again, you can be my app guinea pig, what other pointless but hugely fun app do we need in our lives! 🤣

The Bitmojis looks proper cool XD hahaha… very funky!
You mentioned a magazine subscription and I just sat back for a minute and thought- damn, the last time I read a magazine was … was… 8 years ago! And that made me incredibly sad! I need to get a life and a magazine subscription! 😀

I feel you, I haven’t read a magazine in years, although only 2 or 3 years, haha. I like this one because has so much content in it, and such good quality. And it comes out twice a year so not too much of a commitment. 🙂

ohh, I do like the sound of things that come with little commitment XD

Me too! I don’t think my bank balance could handle another monthly subscription, and this one is pay as you go so even better! At £7 an issue (going by the current price), twice a year, can’t complain at al!!

I love the library cards and your bitmoji is so cute! I have to tell you I have written in my happiness planner a couple of times but not every day. I’m enjoying though. How have you been liking it?

I’m loving the happiness planner, I haven’t completed The Happiness Roadmap because there was potentially going to be workshop to complete it this month not to far from where I live, but unfortunately they couldn’t find a venue, so I need to carve out some time to fill it in. I’ve used mine daily, i try to, as much as possible, plan my week, and then rather than one reflection at the end of the week (I bought the weekly one), I fill in a part anytime they’re something I want to reflect on. I also try to add something positive to it every day, something that I achieved or something that made me happy, just close out the day on a positive thought, and it ‘forces me’ to do something happy each day.
Sorry for the long reply 🙈

No need to be sorry! I bought the daily one, and so I need to check in with it daily, but I have a gazillion planners…one for blogging, one for work, one for exercise, and now this one. 😂 This one is so nice, though, I could potentially use it for work too. I haven’t done the happiness roadmap either. Of course I picked up my planner for the first real time on January 1st late at night, so I put that off and decided to jump in to the daily pages which are very nice. It has the spot for a daily reflection, which you are already doing on your own with yours. I’m so happy to hear you are using it and enjoying it. I’m quite pleased with it, too, and need to buckle down and make sure to use it consistently. ♥️

Wow, that’s a lot of planners you have! I have this one, A Novel Campion (which is for blogging/bookstagram) and a reading journal (a plain notebook that gives me the freedom to track/record what I want)!
To be honest, I’d much rather the Happiness Planner and Novel Companion were merged into one. I’m thinking to get the daily happiness planner next time and use it for both life and blogging 🤔 from the photos of the daily one online, I think it could work, what do you think?

I think it could work. It has lots of pages and space. I’ll take another good look at it.

Please do, and if possible DM some photos, of the daily page layout and reflection. Also, other than the happiness roadmap, and the daily pages, are their any other sections?

I’ll send some pics soon, and I need to dig through more to see what else is there. Once I “felt behind” by not doing the roadmap yet, I stopped exploring what was in there! ♥️

Those Sherlock Holmes books were a nice catch!
I found 3 Camilla Lackberg books in my local shop, and they were in sequence! Yay 😀
Love the bitmoji thing! ❤

I read the first one in that series, and have been randomly collecting books in the series ever since, I think I now have 1-6, but collected them out of order! I’m going into town again on Wednesday, so hopefully I’ll find another few charity shop gems!

Those library cards are so awesome!!! The memories they bring back! 😂 they’re really well made, they look exactly like the real thing. Such a thoughtful gift!
And how cool that you found those Sherlock Holmes stories. I was just reading a long-form piece about a Sherlock Holmes obsessive who was maybe murdered and realized I don’t think I’ve ever read one of the books! Will I be so lucky as to find 99 cent secondhand copies? We shall see…what a great find!

Thank you! I’m definitely on the hunt for more of those Holmes books! Is it acceptable to leave my contact details in every charity shop, asking them to call me if they get any more 🤔😂

Hahaha definitely! I’ve done that with other rare-ish books I’m hunting, no shame 😉👍🏼
