This Week in Books (7/12/16)

Ah the curse of the book blogger – sooner or later, you’re going to fall behind with your reviews. Once I finish one of my currents reads today, I’ll be behind with 4 reviews so I thought I’d take part in This Week in Books – a weekly feature hosted by Lipsyy Lost & Found. Here’s a quick look at my week in books.

Currently Reading:

After waiting several months in the library queue to read His Bloody Project, it’s finally mine to read, I totally forgot about it and it’s due back tomorrow so today will be spent finishing it. I’ve also joined a group of fellow bookworms on Bookstagram for a read-a-long of Americanah – there’s nothing like a read-a-long to get you to pick up a book you’ve been meaning to read for ages!

What I Finished Reading:

Both very enjoyable reads, and hopefully I’ll have my reviews up soon. Witness was my holiday read in Spain – I like to take a little crime with me wherever I go. The River at Night is a great story of survival and friendship and is also the first book read towards achieving a bingo on my bookish bingo card, replacing Pendulum (my planned read for the Survival square), but I’m so still going to read Pendulum and I’m secretly hoping it wins the vote to become the first bookclub read in January.

What I’m Reading Next:

the-mine-antti-tuomainen

A hitman. A journalist. A family torn apart. Can he uncover the truth before it’s too late?

In the dead of winter, investigative reporter Janne Vuori sets out to uncover the truth about a mining company, whose illegal activities have created an environmental disaster in a small town in Northern Finland. When the company’s executives begin to die in a string of mysterious accidents, and Janne’s personal life starts to unravel, past meets present in a catastrophic series of events that could cost him his life.

Have you seen the Finnish Invasion Blog Tour taking over Twitter? If you have, then you’ve seen the fantastic reviews for The Mine, and hopefully understand why I’m so excited to read it!

Thanks for stopping by the blog today, I’m off to finish His Bloody Project then I’m writing book reviews galore. What does your week in books look like?

  1. I’m in the club for bloggers who are behind in not only reviews but reading!! I won’t have a review ready until I actually finish a book and between xmas activities, family stuff, and my weird reading mood my reading is suffering:( I hope to get back on track soon. I’m almost finished with Hidden Bodies on audio and it’s not nearly as good as YOU. Very disappointing. Happy review writing Wednesday to you:)! I also had to return HIs Bloody Project to library without reading it

    1. I’ve got just over 200 pages of His Bloody Project left so I’m confident I’ll finish it today. I have heard Hidden Bodies isn’t as good as YOU so I think I’ll just read YOU and give that one a miss. Ah xmas is definitely a busy period for most So reviewing tends to slip but I’ve done with uni till the new year so I should really be ahead of the game haha. I think if you put to much pressure on you’re self though it’s no longer fun

    1. I enjoyed Witness so much more than Love You To Death. I don’t think I’ve come across that plot idea before, we’ll compare notes soon.
I enjoyed Half of a Yellow Sun so I’m hope I enjoy Americanah just as much, my friends been on at me to read it for ages – so far so good!

  2. It seems like everyone is in a slump lately! Mine’s been going on for over a month now, and I have yet to write 4 reviews for books I read last month and 3 more for books I’ve read in the last week. I’ve easily surpassed my reading challenge goal in books read but not in reviews written 😦

So my Christmas wish to you and all the other slumpers is: Let the words flow from your fingers as quickly as you read them into your head.
